What would you like to study? They're both good schools.
Answer 2 :
Here's a list of things to consider: 1) Do you want a large school or a small school? Rutgers is in the middle of New Brunswick, a city of 50,000 people whereas TCNJ is in Ewing, essentially a suburb of Trenton with a quiet atmosphere 2) Do you want D1 athletics or D3 athletics? You can feel the amazing RU pride as 9,000 students shout "Rrrrrr, Uuuuu" during home games in a packed stadium, or you can cheer on your friend from Econ class in the soccer game. It's a totally different experience at each level. 3) What do you want to study? If you're interested in the sciences, Rutgers has amazing faculty members that are internationally renowned for their research. They also boast some of the top liberal arts departments in the nation (history, women's studies) and the world (philosophy). If you're interested in the arts, TCNJ offers smaller class sizes where you can really have intense debates about Rousseau's Social Contract with your peers. TCNJ is also known for its education programs (it was previously known as Trenton State Teacher's College). 4) What sort of activities are you looking for? Rutgers University boasts over 300 student organizations and clubs in addition to a plethora of intramural and recreational sports leagues. TCNJ offers a significant number of student groups and many opportunities for campus leadership. 5) Do you want to go home or stay at school? Both TCNJ and Rutgers have the reputations of "suitcase schools" but think by the numbers: If 50% of Rutgers-New Brunswick goes home on the weekends, that still leaves 14,000 students. If 50% of TCNJ goes home, that leaves 3,500 students. Good luck!
