Drake is a proprietary career school, rather than a traditional college. A lot of employers don't like proprietary schools, and won't hire proprietary school graduates. But some employers are just fine with schools like Drake. I don't know Drake personally, so I don't know their reputation. They've been around for a long time, though - 100+ years. Drake is expensive compared to your local community college. You should be able to get basicially the same degree from a cc as you would from Drake. The cc may be more reputable, and could be a LOT cheaper. So when you talk to Drake, also talk to the folks at your local community college. Compare the two programs, and then decide which one is better for you. Maybe even apply to both! See where you get in, and see what financial aid they offer you - then decide. You can get financial aid to go to either Drake or to go to your local community college. Talk directly to the people in admissions, and they'll tell you how financial aid works. If you are low income, you are eligible for certain grants (financial aid) from the US government. If you go to a community college, normally, the grants could be enough to pay for your entire education! But if you go to Drake, because it's so expensive, you'd probably also need to take out loans to help pay for your schooling, and you'd have to pay those back when you graduated. But maybe that's okay, because you are right. Drake gives a $350 bi-weekly stipend/loan to every student who goes to 80% or more of their classes. If you graduate from Drake, you never have to pay that money back - it becomes like a gift. Interesting. Here is the website for Drake: http://www.drakecollege.com/ Their phone numbers are on that page, and there's also a button you can use to have them send you information. Good luck!

I would go with Rutgers. TCNJ is not well known outside of NJ. It used to be Trenton State College, but changed its name to sound nicer. Rutgers has more programs accademically, which means you can try a lot of things out while you are there. Also, you can get into the Rutgers honors program if you get a 3.5 GPA after one year. Rutgers is known nationally. It has a great football team and womens basketball. If you went to california, theyd know Rutgers. The only reason to go to TCNJ over Rutgers is if you want a smaller environment. The class sizes a a little smaller, and the administration cares a little more. But if you want recognition, which it seems like you do, its better to be academically successful in an ocean at Rutgers than to be the big fish in the small pond of TCNJ. Even so, Rutgers is broken up into smaller divisions, so you always see your friends around campus. It FEELS like a small college at Rutgers even though you know there are thousands of students. Finally, out of experience, I have a friend who graduated TCNJ last year, with a degree in marketing, and is working at Borders as a cashier. I have a friend who graduated Rutgers last year, with accounting, who had a job offer the end of her Junior year. In New Jersey, The best undergrad is Princeton, Followed by Rutgers. TCNJ is like most of the other NJ state schools like Stockton or Montclair Good luck, and e-mail me with any other questions.
Answer 2 :
I would guess that Rutgers is #2 in the state (behind Princeton, but there are other contenders for #2 like Seton Hall). TCNJ is 2nd tier, good, but 2nd tier

One of my friends is graduating from college this summer, and she already has a position teaching in Northern Virginia for fall (she did more student teaching than usual but had no full-time experience). You might try the DC area - here's a link: http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/About+DCPS/Career+Opportunities/Teach+in+Our+Schools I also know of several people who found jobs in inner-city Philly within the past few years with no prior experience. Good luck!

I'm looking to go to medical school; Should I go to Rutgers or The College of New Jersey?

Answer 1 :
I would highly recommend going to Rutgers University, though perhaps I'm a bit biased because I'm a Rutgers University student. But here we go... 1. Rutgers University has the advantage of being a large school - more options for majors that could lead to medical school, you can find the one that's right for you, more options for classes so you aren't stuck in one route to graduation and possibly get shut out of classes, more students means more graduates and therefore more alumni, which are crucial for getting placed into adventitious internships which can help get you into medical school. 2. Name recognition. Outside of New Jersey, TCNJ isn't very well known. I'm from Maryland originally and before moving up the east coast I had never heard of TCNJ. Consider where you are planning on going to medical school - if it is in the immediate area, this probably doesn't apply, but if you're farther south or west, it may become an issue. 3. Test preparation - Rutgers offers course in MCAT test prep, as well as private (FREE) one on one tutoring for classes and tests as well as group study and televised reviews. 4. Quality of undergraduate education in preparing you for medical school. Med school is extremely tough, you have to be prepared for what you're getting yourself into. Going pre-med at Rutgers is very popular and therefore very competitive, the programs are top notch and they attract our best and brightest - producing well prepared students to go on to be doctors. 5. Local hospitals - we are surrounded by Robert Wood Johnson and St. Peter's hospitals, which are literally within walking distance from the university. Opportunities to get great hands on experience are infinite. Be sure to do your research though on both schools and make the decision thats best for YOU. Good luck!
